 ABOUT THE TEAM

We are a team of enthusiastic microbiologists working together to understand the physiology of a human pathogen Staphylococcus aureus. 

S. aureus is a pervasive colonizer of the human nares, a trait that directly correlates with invasive infections. Many of these infections are attributed to antibiotic-resistant strains, termed methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), which are associated with poor clinical outcomes and increased mortality. This results in an urgent need to identify new molecular targets for the development of therapeutics to treat MRSA infections. 

An overarching theme of our lab is to utilize genetic and biochemical approaches to investigate S. aureus physiology, with the goal to identify key molecular mechanisms that allow this organism to persistently colonize and cause deadly infections in the host.
