Year by year, through the activity of volunteers and the Chicago Park District, the prevalence and diversity of native plants in the woodland and the prairie increases. As native plant populations increase, so do populations of the creatures that have evolved with and depend on these native plants--from microbes to fungii to insects to amphibians and reptiles to birds and mammals.
The Bobolink Meadow is an actively managed Chicago Park District Nature Area in Jackson Park on Chicago's South Side. The northern portion of the meadow is managed as a native woodland habitat, and the open southern area is managed as a tall grass prairie habitat. In 2013 Bobolink Meadow was presented with the Chicago Wilderness award for Conservation and Native Landscaping.
The development of these habitats is an ongoing project that depends on the help of volunteers. It's a pleasure to participate in the restoration of these areas, and we hope you will join us at our workdays.
