CRITERIA: Near wall is anxious and near the center is not. If the mouse was over its own body length away from the wall, that was considered near the center. If it was within its own body length to the wall it was considered near. An ordinal scale was used to measure anxiety, and times spent near or away from the wall were recorded. The ordinal scale was from -3 to 3, lower numbers meaning more anxiety and higher numbers meaning less. The criterion for each of the numbers on the scale is as follows: -3 is over a minute near the wall, -2 is from 30-59 seconds near the wall, -1 is 5 to 29 seconds near the wall, 0 is less than 5 seconds anywhere, 1 is 5 to 29 seconds away from the wall, 2 is 30-60 seconds away from the wall, and 3 is over a minute away from the wall.
