The Belgian National Committee for the Pure and Applied Physics (or BNCPAP) is organized under the wing of the Royal Academies for Science and the Arts of Belgium (RASAB). The BNCPAP fosters the development of physics by promoting research, organizing public colloquia, and serving as the official liaison between Belgian physicists and the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP).
Our main activities are:
Monitoring research in physics in Belgium: In 2005, the NCPAP started the compilation of short reports on the main physics research topics in Belgium, both theoretical and experimental. These are written and regularly updated by prominent Belgian researchers, actively involved in the IUPAP Commissions, and can be found under Reports on Research Activities. Every updated report is also published by the Belgian Physical Society in their BPhy-Magazine , the on-line successor of Physicalia Magazine.
Organizing colloquia: Every two years, the NCPAP organises a one-day colloquium on a topic in Physics that is likely to attract a broad audience, including science teachers, bachelor and master students, researchers active in the field and interested laymen. These colloqia take place at the premises of the Royal Academies for Science and the Arts of Belgium.
Nominating membership of IUPAP commissions: The BNCPAP presents, to the General Assembly of IUPAP, nominations for the participation of Belgian experts in the different IUPAP Commissions.
