Club Registration of Vehicles

The BMWOCSA is approved under the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) Conditional Registration Scheme covering Historic, Left-Hand Drive, and Street Rod Vehicles – also known as Club Registration.

FINANCIAL members of the Club who own a vehicle that is aged at least 25 years from 1 January the year in which the vehicle was manufactured, and which is "true to type" – (close to standard with original engine type) may apply for Club Registration.  Once approved, it entitles the vehicle to make LOGGED trips on up to 90 days in each period of 12 months registration.  Club Registration is not transferable between owners nor between clubs.

A Club member who requires Club Registration must have the suitable vehicle inspected by a Club Registrar and then pay the DIT charges.  A logbook (with 3 years validity) will be issued by a Club Registrar when the member presents the DIT receipt (registration certificate) and a current membership card.

A vehicle under Club Registration will have valid COMPULSORY THIRD PARTY INSURANCE/REGISTRATION only if the rider/driver:

The owner of the vehicle must also remain a financial member of the Club and have the logbook re-stamped each financial year.

Club Registrars are appointed by the DIT after being nominated by the BMWOCSA committee and are obliged by law to observe the scheme’s rules.  They will in necessary cases offer advice and support to achieve a positive result.  If you are unsure of your vehicle's eligibility, we suggest you contact one of the Club Registrars to clarify your situation.  Initial and new logbook inspections are a Club requirement to ensure that the Club’s ongoing approval under the Club Registration scheme is not jeopardised.  However, these inspections in no way confer roadworthiness, which remains the responsibility of the owner.  In June each year, the Club will organise a “ratification day” at which owners can have current logbooks stamped for the next financial year.
