Present work:
As part of my PhD thesis, I am developing models to estimate gridded subnational GDP and GDP per capita on a global scale. My research leverages ancillary remote sensing data, including nighttime lights, land use patterns, building footprints, and various environmental and socio-economic datasets, to disaggregate aggregate GDP from coarse administrative units into finer spatial resolutions, specifically at the 2 km scale. By enhancing the spatial granularity of GDP estimates, this work aims to deliver more accurate and actionable insights for economic planning, particularly in regions where traditional data collection methods are limited or outdated. The integration of these high-resolution data sources provides the potential for more precise decision-making at local levels, enabling better resource allocation, informed policy-making, and improved economic forecasting.
