About Us
In 1946, Bright Morningstar Baptist Church was organized at 226 Lower Terrace Street in Buffalo, NY.
In1949, the late Rev. L.C. Williams was elected as Pastor. Under William’s administration, the church moved from 3 Trenton Avenue to 271 Court Street, and in 1952 the church became incorporated. Due to the increase in membership of the church at the time, facilities were needed that would be more accommodating; therefore, in 1964, the present building at 292 Glenwood Avenue was purchased. The parsonage was purchased on May 5, 1974, and the church name was changed to Bright Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church. On August 6, 1977, Rev. Earnest Donaldson was elected and served until his resignation on July 19, 1982.
The church was without a Pastor for some time; however, on April 9, 1983, Rev. Richard E. Flood was elected as Pastor. Pastor Flood was the proud Pastor of Bright Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church for 37 years. In October of 1984, Under Pastor’s Flood administration Paul Walker and Dr. Gregory Maurice Fuller were ordained.
Under Flood’s administration, Bible Classes and Prayer Meetings were reestablished, and Bright Morningstar was completely refaced and remodeled. The current fellowship hall, educational wing, sanctuary, and exterior of the building were all renovated within the past ten years. Also, during Pastor Flood’s tenure, the Lydia R. Stevens Scholarship Fund was established in 2001. This scholarship has afforded twelve minority men and women the ability to reach their higher educational goals and attend various colleges across the country. On January 19, 2020, our Lord saw fit to grant peace and eternal rest to our beloved Pastor Richard E. Flood.
For a short time, Bright Morningstar was without a Pastor. However, Minister Paul Morris stood in the gaps and was acting Pastor for almost one year. Before this, Minister Morris served as an associate minister to Pastor Flood for nearly 20 years before this time. Minister Morris was the youth minister and confidant for years during that time. He was also a powerful and informative bible class teacher. Within the past five years, he incorporated an afternoon manna bible workshop series that many members from Bright Morningstar and other area churches came to regularly and enjoyed.
Unfortunately, in March of 2020, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic for the first time in the church’s history, the church’s doors were closed due to federal regulations. That did not stop Morris, as he was adamant about preaching God’s word during the federally mandated lockdown. For the first time, Bright Morningstar’s members were able to stream Sunday school and worship services digitally and online. Morris was faithful in delivering sermons online and through online conference services. In January of 2021, Minister Paul Morris was elected as the interim Pastor of Bright Morningstar Baptist church. Shortly after Morris’s interim election, the federal mandates were lifted for churches. Minister Morris was instrumental in safely reopening the church’s doors to offer both Sunday school and church services in person again.
On February 3, 2022, Paul Morris Jr. was officially elected as the Bright Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church Pastor. The members at Bright Morningstar enjoy Pastor Morris’s informative teaching style and his passion for educating them on the bible. He believes that all Christians should be well-versed in the bible, and he makes sure each of the members learns the word and studies it thoroughly. Under Pastor Morris’s administration, the goal is to continue to grow the church’s online presence and to regrow the youth department. In addition, Pastor Morris is eager to reestablish prayer meetings and bible studies. With the guidance of the Lord and Pastor Morris, the church has faith that Bright Morningstar will bring even more souls to Christ.
