South Baltimore Strength Club is a Strongman gym located in the Federal Hill neighborhood of Baltimore Maryland.
We're a close knit group of all ages and skill levels, always looking for new people to train with.
Strongman is a competitive strength sport right alongside Olympic Lifting and Power Lifting, with a focus on feats of practical strength.
In practice, this makes Strongman one of the most well-rounded ways to lift, building strength and muscle, while keeping things interesting day-to-day with new movements.
We lift as a group, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30pm with events training on Saturdays. Group training ensures we can push our limits while maintaining safety. Some members come every day, others just half time.
We have a primary workout each day- usually squat, press, or deadlift, followed by an accessory workout and then events like sandbag carry or truck pull.
We lift in a garage! It's two stories with all of the equipment you could need for strongman training, including sandbags, yoke, truck pull simulator, kegs, farmers carry, car deadlift frame and atlas stones. We also have a couple squat racks, barbells, axles, specialty bars, reverse hyper and weights.
The lineage of South Baltimore Strength Club began after WW2 with Leo Stern, a weightlifter, Silver Era bodybuilder and former Mr. California, who owned Stern's Gym and lived in San Diego until his passing in 2009. Mr. Stern mentored Quinn "The German" Bremes, a World Record holding powerlifter and former owner of San Diego Barbell. The German mentored Josh Strassner, a competitive strongman, Highland Games athlete and owner of the South Baltimore Strength Club.

Join us for a lift! The gym usually opens from 6:30pm-8:00pm on M, T, Th. You might want to email us to ensure we're open that day, but chances are you can swing by and we'll be there.
Once you're part of the club, dues are $40/month. This money goes towards keeping the lights on and buying/maintaining the equipment, but don't worry about that your first week.
Some advice for your first lift:
Parking in Federal Hill is tight, we don't have our own lot, most members live in walking distance.
Wear flat shoes if you can, something like Vans or Converse, this helps tremendously with lifting form.
We don't have running water in the gym, so no bathroom, and you'll likely want to bring a water bottle.
We have members of all strengths and skill levels, so don't be dissuaded if you're new to Strongman.
