BMCC Hack-A-Thon is a project-based challenge taking place on Saturday, October 29th, hosted virtually by Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC).
Students from all majors will team up to build innovative projects and compete for prizes.
The purpose of this hackathon is to inspire BMCC students to work collaboratively to solve real-world problems and familiarize themselves with current technology.
BMCC Hack-A-Thon is free, and made possible thanks to our wonderful supporters: NSF, BMCC, BMCC CIS Department and BMCC Programming Club.
Topics:
1. ZERO HUNGER
2. CLEAN WATER & SANITATION & RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION
3. GREEN CONSUMPTION
4. RACIAL JUSTICE
5. QUALITY EDUCATION
6. GOOD HEALTH AND WELL BEING
GRADING CRITERIA:
Completeness and transferability
How fully is the idea implemented? Can it achieve an impact in the field? Can it be transferred elsewhere? The judges are looking for an application that could make a difference in dangerous situations and can be used multiple times.
Effectiveness and efficiency
Does the solution address a high-priority area? Does it achieve its goal effectively and efficiently? Can it scale? This should address a problem that has been quantified and then have an impact.
Design and usability
How good are the design, user experience, and ease of use of the solution? How quickly can it be utilized in a community or society? Students need to think about the end-user and their situation – consider the individual’s stress, access to network connectivity, their device’s battery life, etc.
Creativity and innovation
How unique is the approach to solving a long-standing or previously intractable problem? This doesn’t need to be completely original. Think about how students can add insight to an existing solution or take a totally different perspective/view on the problem and create a solution around it.
