The Process

Challenges We Faced

We faced a multitude of challenges along the way. First, and foremost, was maintaining HIPAA compliance. By storing everything locally, and making this something voluntarily shared, without asking identifying protected health information (PHI) we accomplished this. The second was building this from scratch. As we are all new to development we wanted to get a better grasp of how to accomplish this. Through meeting with mentors we were able to implement feedback to successfully complete phase one and translate it into our respective languages. Currently we have one existing problem: creating a database for institutions to pull from to give them the information that they need. This will be a planned feature.

Pre-existing solutions

Currently there are a few solutions on the market that accomplish a basic feature, which is symptom tracking. New York State's Department of Health created the Covid-Alert App, and Citizen created the SafePass app. These only track symptoms.

Why is this different?

S.T.O.P. is different because it educates the user about Covid-19, but can easily be used to help mitigate outbreaks by institutions such as schools and employers. By using S.T.O.P. they can track symptom occurrence in their populations and make educated predictions of trends to intelligently move to remote work and education.
