It has now been four years since young Regan's life was saved during an exorcism. The now 17-year-old is repressing the events of that time, but with the help of hypnosis therapy she is now supposed to process her experiences. At the same time, the Vatican commissions Father Lamont to investigate the death of the exorcist Father Merrin. Both of their paths lead to Washington, where the horror began four years ago.
