The road to being recruited to play in college is a two-way street that begins the second you step into high school as a freshman. This may seem daunting but if you take it step by step and take your time; while not falling behind, this is one of the most rewarding experiences in your life.

Many athletes are under the impression that they will be seen and academics “don’t really matter.” This couldn’t be further from the truth. When I say the recruiting process begins the second you step into high school it is the truth. The grades you earn as a freshman impact your G.P.A when you’re a senior; example the 1.3 G.P.A you earned as a freshman pulled down your overall G.P.A to a 2.575 even with 3.0 marking’s as a sophomore, junior and senior.

A prospective student-athlete needs to do their part to get recruited, don’t just expect to “get seen” by your dream school. It starts with understanding your needs and doing your own research. For beginners, do you want to be close to home, do you want to be at a big school, do you want to go to school in a city? These are the types of things you need to figure out on your own and go on unofficial visits.
