Cake Dance - returning for its second year in 2024!
Cake Dance event celebrates a widely documented tradition in the northwest of Ireland of “Cake Dances.” Historically at a Cake Dance, dancers would step out and perform in any number of styles of Irish dancing. In this event, we especially welcome the Sean Nós style of dancing, as well as old-style Irish step dancing and other forms of percussive dancing. All entrants will receive a cupcake, and the competitor/performing unit whose name is pulled out of the hat will 'take the cake!' (win a larger cake).
For more competition details, read the syllabus.
Music Competitions
NOTE: MUSIC COMPETITIONS ARE ON A DIFFERENT DATE AND AT A DIFFERENT LOCATION THAN THE FEIS DANCING COMPETITIONS!
Music competitions will be held on Saturday night, June 15, beginning at 5:00pm at the McTeggart Studio, 3519 Lansdowne Drive.
Following the competitions, Justin Bridgebeck and Jeremy Wade will host a masterclass on Irish music for all participants.
Solo Instrumental Music
Competitors shall play one tune from each of TWO tune categories (e.g. one Reel and one Jig) regardless of age group.
There are four categories; u18 and o18 Solo Music Melody, as well as u18 and o18 Solo Music-Accompaniment.
For more competition details, read the syllabus.
Combined Music/Dance
Competitors will play 32 BARS of any traditional Irish tune (e.g. Reel, Jig, etc.) at the corresponding competition tempo (e.g. Reel = 113 bpm, etc.), which will be recorded in real-time. Competitors will then dance to their own recorded tune.
