I am a geographer who reads the world through maps and tells stories through pictures.
This digital archive is a curated collection of my journey toward a personal vision:
This vision, rooted in the classic ideal of daily self-renewal (日日新)
and self-mastery (克己), drives every project and piece of analysis you will find here.
My personal symbol is designed to encapsulate my identity and the journey I've taken.
The symbol begins with a square, representing the frame of a map.
The internal grid structure evokes the lines of latitude and longitude, the foundational elements of geography.
Subtly embedded within these lines are the abstracted shapes of the Korean consonants 'ㅈ' (J) and 'ㄹ' (R/L). These are the initial consonants of the word '지리' (Ji-ri), the Korean word for Geography.
The cerulean blue color holds a dual personal significance.
Firstly, it is the official color of the Gyeongchun Line, the train line I rode every day during my university years, carrying me toward my dream of becoming a geographer.
Secondly, it is the signature color of Hibiki Ganaha, an idol character who is a source of personal inspiration and joy.
Ultimately, this symbol is a distillation of my identity as a geographer, the memory of my formative journey, and the personal passions that drive me.
My online handle, 總體的蘭菊, is based on a Korean pun that reflects my philosophy.
It is pronounced 'Chong-che-jeok-nan-guk,' which sounds identical to a common phrase, 총체적 난국 (總體的 難局). This phrase translates to "a total crisis" or "a hopeless situation."
However, I've replaced the Hanja characters for "difficult situation" (難局) with those for "orchids and chrysanthemums" (蘭菊).
In East Asian culture, orchids and chrysanthemums are symbols of integrity, elegance, and resilience.
The name is a personal reminder: even in moments that seem like a total mess, if you look closer, you might find a beautiful garden of orchids and chrysanthemums waiting to bloom. It represents my worldview—a commitment to finding order in chaos, and beauty in adversity.
A visual timeline of my journey, charting the key milestones of my past and the strategic vision for my future.
A curated collection of the books, people, and ideas that have shaped my philosophy and continue to inspire my work.
