GMA News Senior Correspondent Bam Alegre highlighted the critical role of journalists in fighting fake news, describing them as an “extra layer of protection” against misinformation for the people, Thursday, Apr. 25.
According to the veteran reporter, journalists are there to “filter” through the information overload in media nowadays.
Alegre noted that the simplest way to combat false information is to tell the truth.
“To combat information is really just correct information,” he quipped.
Further, Alegre urged campus journalists to use their platforms responsibly and productively, especially with the upcoming NCR Regional Schools Press Conference 2024.
He reminded that while enjoying RSPC is a “core experience” for student journalists, they should not take their “privileged position” for granted because they are the next generation of truth-tellers.
