The Iowa Economic Development Authority has selected Bloomfield as an energy independence demonstration city to help provide an example for Iowa’s 136 municipal utilities. The City has set a target to be electricity independent by 2030. The state of Iowa has provided funding for the City to pilot a community energy independence planning process, and to create a toolkit that can be replicated by other Iowa communities.

This community planning process will last approximately nine months, and will yield two primary results:
Community and stakeholder input will be solicited throughout the project, including one-on-one interviews, focus groups, and community events.
