FORMATION
The seminar on 14 October 2024 dealt with the issue of displaced and refugee populations by the Spanish Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. (UNHCR).
The seminar on the 18 of November focused on the Ibero-American Peace Forum that promotes open dialogue and stands as a space for debate and the construction of cultures of peace, through debating and construction of cultures of peace.
Throughout its previous editions, this congress has become a stage for sharing and reflecting on the experiences of all participants and it has become a stage for sharing and reflecting on the experiences of the participants, with the aim of creating transformative initiatives in the area of peace and human rights, creating channels for dialogue for all peace workers.
This seminar was given on 25 November 2024 by Addressing the genocide in Palestine, from the pacifist activism of the international network of Women in Black. It was held in the auditorium of the doctoral school.

On November 22th by Mr. Paco Cascón Soriano, Pangea, Barcelona, a workshop will be held to analyze interesting topics such as discovering the positive perspective of conflicts, learning to analyze them and discovering their complexity.
Sofia Herrero Rico, as coordinator of the UNESCO Chair in Philosophy for Peace, gives the inaugural lecture in Education for Peace, playing a crucial role as a speaker at the seminar on November 18th, focusing on the Ibero-American Peace Forum. They delivered a compelling presentation, sharing innovative approaches to fostering dialogue and collaboration among peace workers in Ibero-America. As well as insights and experiences significantly enriching the discussions, inspiring participants to pursue transformative initiatives in peace and human rights. Through her expertise, she helped create a dynamic and reflective environment, contributing to the forum’s goal of building lasting cultures of peace.
This Lecture was organized on the day on Monday 7 October 2024, it focused on the importance of joining forces to work as a global citizenry committed to responsible for positive social transformation in the world.
Global citizenship committed to be responsible for positive social transformation in terms of human and sustainable. In this endeavour, we need each other to challenge this responsibility in order to implement attitudes, behaviours and policies, in both personal and institutional levels, in favour of sustainability and the preservation of the planet, and its biodiversity. It is also necessary to promote the values of a culture of peace such as recognition, cooperation, respect, care and love. Thus, the aim of the Day, and within the framework of the Philosophy of Making Peace, is to exchange knowledge and experiences on how to mitigate human suffering and that of Nature.
The UNESCO Chair in Philosophy for Peace in collaboration with the University Institute for Social Development and Peace (IUDESP) is organising the 1st Conference on Peace Studies and Social Development: current lines of research, on 12 December in Room 103 of the Doctoral School.
In this conference the members of the IUDESP will present their lines of research, projects on which they are currently working and topics of interest, with the aim of synergies and knowledge transfer.
The UNESCO Chair in Philosophy for Peace has collaborated with the IV Ibero-American Forum for Peace. It lasted 2 days, 18 and 19 November, in a hybrid format, face-to-face and virtual, to discuss the current situation of Education for Peace in Ibero-America from an academic perspective, but also from the perspective of actions and projects that are being carried out.
SENSITIVITY
On the 29th of November, 2024 our Peace students had a programme of activities in nature that included a visit to the animal shelter, a conscious walk through the native Mediterranean forest to learn about wild plants and their medicinal uses, a visit to the self-sustainable, bioclimatic and energy efficient Arcadia house built with traditional techniques, a visit to the natural water retention project created to favour wildlife and a visit to the centenary oak tree of Más de la Magdalena.
The Peace Master's program took a historical tour to highlight initiatives for Peace Education from this era, such as coeducation, the empowerment of women, and the rise of culture and the arts.
Landmarks were visited, such as the civil cemetery, Ribalta Park, Tetuán Square, and the Town Hall Square, reflecting on how the past inspires peace today.
RADIO PROGRAM: "MOSAICOS DE PAZ"
On October 10th, the Intercultural Radio Program, presented by students of the Master's in International Studies in Peace, Conflicts, and Development, began. Its aim is to spread information about a culture of peace. It includes interviews with people working for peace in different parts of the world, peace news, songs, and messages of hope that help us discover and believe that reality can be seen from a different perspective. Discover the world of peace.
Radio broadcasts and recordings have been available since 2007 on the University’s website for listeners and students who want to share their ideas on peace and conflict resolution.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
The BALDER project is a response that encourages younger generations to cultivate values in favor of a culture of peace in a motivating, creative, and dynamic manner. BALDER derives from Norse mythology, representing the God of peace, light, and forgiveness.
The exhibition features 20 posters (roll-ups) showcasing 20 key competencies in Spanish, English, and Valencian: Love, Kindness, Nonviolent Communication, Cooperation, Creativity, Care, Dignity, Empathy, Active Listening, Equality, Justice, Loyalty, Patience, Peace, Forgiveness, Power, Recognition, Resilience, Respect, and Responsibility.
Moreover, the project encompasses other values such as peace, justice, respect, equality, care, patience, forgiveness, responsibility, power, creativity, resilience, active listening, cooperation, and non-violent communication.
Ultimately, BALDER aims for social transformation and change, seeking to equip us with alternatives to alleviate human suffering and that of nature.
This is a project that began on 1 October 2024 in which the Master's students actively disseminate activities related to the culture of peace through all our platforms. It is an initiative designed for students to actively participate through the growing space of social networks in raising awareness and awareness of peace issues.
Sofia Herrero Rico, as coordinator of the UNESCO Chair of Philosophy for Peace, participated in the event of the restoration of the Tree of Peace on 16 October, which has stood in a public square in La Vall d'Uixó since 2001 as a symbol to illuminate peace on our paths and in our daily lives. It is the work of the Vall d'Uixó artist Pere Ribera, who inspired the Chair to create this work as a symbol and educational resource to contribute to cultures of peace.
Dr. Juanma Jimenez Robles invited you to a talk on ‘Learning to Forgive’ on Friday 20th December at the Centro Urbano in Castellón. In the words of Dr. Jimenez Robles: ‘In the conference I pointed out some indicators of what forgiveness is from a philosophical point of view, and I shared some guidelines to help us to forgive from a psychological point of view so that we can be happier people, free of resentment’.
Sofía Herrero Rico, as coordinator of the UNESCO Chair in Philosophy for Peace, participated on Thursday 28 November in the VII Mirant: Film and Global Health Festival, which focuses on youth activism for the defence of Human Rights. Firstly, the documentary "Bigger than us” was screened for all participants, which shows the struggle of young people in 7 different countries. Then followed a discussion with an activist from Lebanon, a former student of the Master, then testimonies of youth leaders and associations in the Valencian Community were heard to promote inclusivity..
The screening was followed by a discussion between Carlos Eduardo Cubillos Pérez, a young Colombian activist for peace and Human Rights in conflict zones and Yara el Harake, activist and defender of Human Rights in Lebanon; with the account of different testimonies of young people who organised and mobilised themselves in the face of the crisis caused by the flood in the Valencian Community.
