( SPOILER ALERT)
There are no words that can describe the talent of Wes Anderson - one of the greatest directors in Hollywood who had well known through many masterpieces with a very different style that can be easily recognized. He is renowned for using symmetry in his films, which creates a sense of harmony and balance. While pleasant to watch, this kind of composition also contributes to the fanciful, beguiling appearance of his films The grand Budapest hotel is an example.
Storytelling is the most attractive thing in the movie that I've to mention first. By using non-linear, the film archived the purpose where the story is a flashback of Mr. Moustafa, the owner of the hotel. It is a blend of different genres which are comedy, war, independence, and romance, led by the character name Zero, who is the storyteller.
When going into the details, the hotel is mainly built for the high class, who are willing to pay tonnes of money for a night in this fancy hotel. Then he finally found the plaza in Gorlitz. The design of this plaza is one of the most important factors in the success of the film
Another factor is about clothing. Wes Anderson was very careful in choosing the clothes for each character to be as fit as possible. As I research, the director was fascinated by retro clothes for the 1930s time line and vintage for the 1960s agenda. The color was a noticeable point, especially for Gustave and Zero.
Moreover, the color, movement, and ratio of the frame are three elements that make the scene more attractive. The movie was changing very crucially when the color will instantly change to fit with the attitude. Also, the pink of the hotels was used to comfort the guests, it creates a relaxing space.
The cinematography had been used a lot. By using different techniques, the audience will never feel bored. One special thing about it is the continuous motion. By giving a wide range of viewpoints, the film will create an interesting view for the audience.
Last but not least, the soundtrack is being used a lot in the film. It is signature, light and charming with a lot of plucked and struck instruments.
The cast is incredible talent, including, aside from the aforementioned, Matthew Amalric, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Léa Seydoux, and Anderson stalwarts Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, and Owen Wilson. (Newcomer Tony Revolori plays the young Moustafa.)
