The course cover topics related to blockchain and decentralized governance; in particular, decentralized infrastructure (protocols for consensus and basic cryptography); decentralized economy (distributed algorithms for a token-based economy); and decentralized governance (decentralized autonomous organizations and social choice theory). In particular, we will discuss protocols for Byzantine Fault Tolerance, the Nakamoto Protocol, Proof of Work, Proof of Stake, several protocols for Decentralized Finance, and Attention-based Social Choice.
Conceptually, the course combines theoretical contents with guest lectures from the industry with student presentations.
Administratively, students shall discuss the topics in class, give a presentation, and either write a report or participate in an additional industry-oriented course.
