BlockBuddy helps users manage access to websites using schedules and daily active-use limits. BlockBuddy is designed to operate locally in the user’s browser and does not use a developer-operated server, advertising platform, or analytics service.
Information BlockBuddy Processes
To provide its website-blocking and time-management features, BlockBuddy processes:
• Website URLs and hostnames visited by the user.
• Domains that the user adds to website groups.
• Whether a managed website is open in the active browser tab.
• The amount of time a managed website remains active in the focused browser window.
• Schedules, daily limits, snoozes, and customization preferences configured by the user.
BlockBuddy does not access or collect page text, passwords, form entries, personal communications, payment information, health information, or authentication credentials.
How Information Is Used
Website URLs and activity information are used only to:
• Determine whether a website matches a group created by the user.
• Enforce user-configured schedules and daily time limits.
• Calculate the remaining daily allowance for a website group.
• Redirect blocked websites to BlockBuddy’s local zen page.
• Provide temporary snoozes requested by the user.
BlockBuddy does not use this information for advertising, analytics, profiling, creditworthiness, lending, or any purpose unrelated to its website-management functionality.
Data Storage
BlockBuddy stores configuration settings using Chrome extension storage.
• Website groups, schedules, daily limits, and zen-page preferences are stored through chrome.storage.sync . Chrome may synchronize these settings between the user’s browsers according to the user’s Chrome Sync settings.
• Daily usage counters, active-time records, and temporary snoozes are stored locally using chrome.storage.local .
• Browsing information and usage records are not transmitted to the developer.
• BlockBuddy does not operate an external database or developer-controlled data server.
Users can reset their usage information and snoozes from BlockBuddy’s settings page. Removing the extension or clearing its extension data also removes locally stored information.
Data Sharing
BlockBuddy does not sell, rent, disclose, or transfer user data to the developer, advertisers, data brokers, or other third parties.
BlockBuddy does not use user data for purposes unrelated to its single purpose of enforcing user-created website schedules and daily limits.
If a user chooses a remote image URL for the zen-page background, Chrome may request that image directly from the selected image host. This is initiated only for a URL chosen by the user. The image is visual content and is never executed as code.
Remote Code
BlockBuddy does not use remotely hosted executable code.
All JavaScript and application logic are packaged within the extension. BlockBuddy does not download or execute external scripts, use eval , or load executable WebAssembly from remote sources.
Permissions
BlockBuddy uses the following Chrome permissions:
• Tabs: Reads the active tab’s URL so it can match the hostname against website groups, account for active browsing time, and redirect blocked tabs to the packaged zen page.
• Web navigation: Detects top-level website navigation so user-created rules can be enforced when a managed website is opened.
• Storage: Saves website groups, schedules, limits, usage counters, snoozes, and customization preferences.
• Alarms: Wakes the extension’s background service worker to checkpoint usage and reevaluate schedules, daily limits, snoozes, and midnight resets.
• HTTP and HTTPS host access: Allows BlockBuddy to enforce rules for any website selected by the user.
BlockBuddy does not inspect website content, form data, messages, passwords, or network request bodies.
Security
BlockBuddy limits the use of browser permissions to its website scheduling, time-accounting, and blocking features. It does not include advertising libraries, tracking pixels, analytics tools, or remotely hosted executable code.
User Controls
Users can:
• Add, edit, disable, or delete website groups.
• Change schedules and daily limits.
• Enable or disable timed snoozes.
• Export their settings.
• Reset daily usage and snooze information.
• Remove all extension data by uninstalling BlockBuddy.
Children’s Privacy
BlockBuddy is a general productivity tool and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children. BlockBuddy does not transmit personal information to the developer.
Changes to This Policy
If BlockBuddy’s data practices materially change, this privacy policy will be updated with a new effective date before or alongside the applicable extension update.
