I think it might be a tad complicated, given that greasepencil works in 3D space. But maybe it could work by looking through whatever the selected view is, and see which lines overlap, create a point in those places, and delete all verticies going off from it. Would be really useful for animating!

I was under the impression that the goal of greasepencil-object branch is to make annotations gp objects as well (at least internally in the code) and then draw them differently depending on the active editor. So accessing bGPdata always happens through something like

bGPdata *gpd = (bGPdata *)ob->data

i.e. Object is would be just a wrapper for bGPdata and is not a different data block.

The team is happy to help anyone who would want to contribute to the project. If you have any questions, head on over to the main communication channel on blender.chat (#grease-pencil-module). There are also bi-weekly module meetings that anyone who wants to contribute can join. You can find the meeting notes and when the next meeting is happening here.

I agree, there is a kind of interpolation in grease pencil what is nice, but it is not intuitive (fast-to-do), In moho If I do straight line in 0 keyframe and move the points on 10 keyframe, timeline automaticly interpolate it, if I change the keyframe 10 to 7 it update it, I dont need to keep clicking in interpolate and undone it all the time.

-Only simple parenting like in Toonboom harmony and comfortable work with library/symbols like in Toonboom harmony and adobe animate/flash can make competitive software for production.

-Storypencil has a flaw that you cant squash and stretch scenes in timeline like in toonboom storyboard

-Video editing mode should be linked with compositing workspace

I'm particularly drawn to the 2D style look in 3D, which is why I love the Grease Pencil in Blender as it allows you to draw/paint in 3D. However, I prefer working in Maya and was wondering if Maya has a tool that has the same idea? From my understanding Maya's Grease or Blue pencil is mostly just used for planning out animation rather than actually building with the drawing.

Grease pencil objects are a native part of Blender, integrating with existing object selection, editing, management, and linking tools. Strokes can be organized into layers, and shaded with materials and textures. Besides a draw mode for strokes, these objects can also be edited, sculpted and weight painted similar to meshes.

Grease Pencil has become a trending tool among 2D/3D hybrid artists, and a more accessible and intuitive method for illustrators and 2D animators to work in 3D. This talk explores Sharon Snow's (Sony Pictures Imageworks) take on it, from pursuing a stylized, painted look, to applying traditional perspective drawing disciplines in 3D. This presentation is a runthrough of grease pencil methods and workflows for beginners, or people who are used to 3D looking for a fresh perspective.

I am very new to blender, working on my first project. I am trying to combine a 3D model, animated using an armature, with some hand-drawn animation, using grease pencil. I started with the model, and everything worked as expected, but when I started animating with the grease pencil, the keyframes were not visible in the timeline. As a result, I cannot grab them, arrange them, or view their onion-skinning.

I saw a similar question asked about the Dope sheet, which allowed me to see the keyframes there, but the timeline is still blank. I have a picture of the view, with the grease pencil selected, but with no keyframes visible. For reference: There are keyframes on frame 0, 1, and 20. I cannot see them in object, edit, or draw mode.

I think my problem has something to do with using the wrong "Keying set" since I am using one with LocRotScale for the armature bones, But I am not sure how to change it to a keying set that allows for grease pencil frames. Keying sets are still a little confusing to me in general. I know the keyframes are being created because scrubbing the timeline still shows the different frames in the viewport, but I just can't view them in the timeline. I am most interested in getting the onion skinning working, which I believe is linked to this visibility issue.

Turns out I locked the collection (where the grease pencil layer was) in outliner. Therefore I could not select the grease pencil drawings. You lock/unlock the collection or any layer by clicking the pointer icon to the right of the name of the collection/object/etc.

Similar functionality to grease pencil can be derived by using the TriPlanar Primitive. Perhaps by adding some presets and options to that primitive a grease pencil like effect can be more easily simulated. For example a TriPlanar primitive with a short Zdepth that auto populates facing the camera with an adjustable transparency.

While grease pencil may not be useful for 3D modeling, it can be useful for concepting scenes in 3D to work out perspective for 2D artwork. Obviously there is a demand for it. Just look at uMake and Gravity Sketch.

in summary krita is used for the idea creation, palete, color keys, storyboard to rough animation, background painting.

Blender is used for the cleanup, coloring and shading with its greasepencil, compositing, video editing and final rendering. Yes and then getting sad you leaving out some shots cause they kill the impact. yes

One tool I fell in love with is the grease pencil. For those who are unfamiliar it is basically a bridge between sketchbook sketching and the 3d environment. Using a tablet one can draw in 3d space - surprisingly accurately - to create animations etc.

I began using the grease pencil tool in sketching ideas for products. At the moment I am designing a bar and its a super great environment to just sketch freely in 3D space without loosing time with picking planes and making components etc. These are elements of later design stages.

But, since I am in-love with fusion I thought of how incredible it would be to have the grease pencil, free sketching awesomeness, in Fusion to begin with. I think it would be a good fit as I know so many people use fusion to "sketch" an idea.

Now if you click the middle mouse button and rotate the screen the character should be straight/vertical. This is a very important aspect, as a tilted grease pencil asset can be difficult for some to adjust.

Using grease pencil to draw on objects can help give our renders a more stylized look. Whether we want to give our objects a hand drawn outline or use or objects as a reference for the grease pencil strokes. So how do we draw on objects with grease pencil?

Here we can add and remove as well as configure layers. When we add a new layer and select it all lines we make will be put into this layer. If we've already setup our grease pencil strokes, we don't need to redo anything though.

While just setting our grease pencil objects as always on top will work in simple cases we may want to use multiple objects. For this we can use the compositor to manually adjust the order. This method is more advanced but allows for much more customization.

We will setup a render layer for working that we won't render. We'll also setup a render layer for our objects and one for the grease pencil objects. We can also setup as many grease pencil object layers as needed.

For our first render layer node set the layer to our grease pencil layer. On the second render layer node set the layer to the objects layer. Connect the first render layers image out to the alpha overs second image in. Connect the second render layers image out to the alpha overs first image in.

With what we've gone over in this article we should be able to draw on the surface of objects. We've also gone over many of the ways we can adjust stroke placement. Finally we touched on some basic compositing we can do to combine our grease pencil objects with the objects we've drawn on. e24fc04721
