BOLD ... IMPORTANT EVENTS
PRE SERIES , 1884 - 2003. TAROT.
goes through life finding each incarnation of dean through the tug, the essence of their souls that pulls them together, loving and caring for each one. but the universe is never too kind and must always take dean away from him too soon. in a lot of ways losing dean changes abe, and not for the better. the first time he loses him, it made him vulnerable, angry, and cold-hearted. the second time it makes him bitter and hate the world. losing dean brings out the worst in him, and god help those who had a part in taking him away.
in 2003 he meets the current incarnation of dean winchester when dean is 24 years of age, after sam separated from them and gone to stanford. john has been absent and held no contact with dean for several years.
abraham is with dean during the events that occur prior to and referenced in season one timeline. but they don’t begin hunting together just yet, as it takes a while for dean to tell him what he does for a living (in turn, it takes a long time for abraham to tell dean about his immortality). for the first few months of their relationship, its simply that. a relationship. date nights and the works. but once dean felt comfortable sharing the truth, felt he could trust him, he told the truth.
eventually, they do begin hunting together and make the perfect team. communication was often silent, speaking with their eyes to know when and where to be, speaking with sign to know the others plan. speaking between their souls, unknowingly at the time. they become one in the same during hunts. a lethal pair. almost nothing gets away from them. almost.
a few months before the events of season one, dean discovers that abraham is immortal after a bad hunt. it wasn’t the way abraham wished for him to know, but if there was anything he learned from the past, its that he can’t control how dean finds out about things. someones the universe demands it of him, explanations borne of circumstance. and it went as expected - there were questions, but there was no malice. no ill intent. rather, dean accepted him and his immortality, silently counted it as a gift. at least he couldn’t lose him.
and for the entire time abraham and dean had been together, there was still constant radio silence from john. circumstances arise, leads that point them in various directions, all of them in a similar direction that it had taken john as they come across what remained of his sloppy trial, and they land a potential case: the woman in white. and a decision is made to involve sam.
SEASON ONE , 2004 - 2005.
abraham is with dean when they arrive at stanford for sam. he waits for dean by the car while he talks to sam inside.
sam and abraham meet for the first time when he and dean walk outside talking about falling into a similar track of johns but no evidence the case was ever solved or dealt with, and how dean hadn’t seen him since sam left, and the case that were dropped into deans lap since his disappearance.
sam isn’t quick to agree to join them on this case. in fact, he was pretty reluctant. but eventually he agreed, so long dean promised him that he would be back by monday for an interview that he desperately wanted, so that he could go back to jessica and live his normal life after he helped dean with the case. and it was settled. sam would not return to hunting permanently, but go with him to see what was left of john and if, by some chance, they could find him along the way. or, god forbid, if anything happened to him.
during that same case, sam discovers that abraham is immortal after the impala charges for them on the bridge. where dean went for the water, sam for the side of the bridge, abraham was caught in its path. though it only took him a few minutes to recover, sam was almost certain that he’d died and he didn’t know how to break it to dean, if he even could. it wasn’t until bones began snapping back together, skin stitching itself back up and abraham rising from where he’d landed that he realized the truth. the reaction was bitten back, saved for the moment they went to john’s last known location. then it was almost immediate. sam wasn’t confrontational, but he did demand answers. dean was the first to speak up in defense of him, but it was abraham that spoke his truth. he told sam that he was immortal, and that dean knew for a long time.
after the case is solved and sam returns home, its clear to abraham that they missed each other. both of them. though they wouldn’t say it out loud, and sam held some reluctance in his decision to stay and continue with college instead, but not enough that it stopped him from leaving again. sam disappeared into his apartment, leaving dean and abraham sitting in the impala for some time after. it didn't feel right leaving right away.
abraham never met jessica moore, but he knows that her death effected sam in many ways. especially his decision to come back to the world of hunting, not for dean but for revenge. abraham would try to comfort him when and where he could, offering what advice he could to him. he could relate to sam that way: losing the person you love the most in this world changes you, and there is no guarantee that it will ever get easier to live with. some days would be harder than others, and some would be impossible. but he didn’t hae to do it alone. abraham reminded him that he had dean now, and him. they wouldn’t let him slip too far if they could help it.
all three of them would continue working cases throughout the year. abraham would watch as sam and dean grew closer again, learned to work together and, ultimately, hit a few bumps in a road along the way. but they would always come back to one another, regardless of what happened before.
by the end, they are reunited with john. abraham is less than thrilled to see that john has “miraculously” made such an appearance in the boys’ lives again, muchless how shitty he treats dean even in the presence of him. it takes everything to hold himself together in front of him, if only for deans sake.
eventually they find azazel, the demon they had been after out of revenge for the murder of jessica (and their mother), but nothing goes according to plan. the demon has a few cards still to play in this game of cat and mouse, possessing john for the colt (the weapon that can kill all supernatural things, abraham included) and nearly killing dean.
the plan is foiled and the demon leaves john severely wounded. abraham's first and only concern, though, is dean. they all get into the car and hope to make it to the nearest hospital in time to help them both. at least thats sam’s hope. abraham sits in the back of the impala with dean, resting him in his lap and trying to keep him alert and awake, talking to him the whole way. the next thing he knows, he’s surrounded by darkness. he dies in that collision with the truck, the impact enough to cause his head to collide with the window, shattering it with the force of his impact, and cracking his skull open. he receives a large laceration over his forehead to his temple, dean still in his lap and clinging to life. everyone within the car is unconscious for several minutes. until abraham recovers, skin stitching itself back together again though blood remained his face. he would recover in enough time to hear the driver of the truck react to the accident, then hear sam wake up and call out to dean when he wasn’t answering him. abraham crawled out of the smashed vehicle and took the traumatized truckers phone to call 911. he would stay with dean that whole time until help arrived and he was forced to let him go with them.
SEASON TWO , 2006 - 2007.
starts with IN MY TIME OF DYING, dean is in a coma while sam and john are mostly okay, sam able to walk around post accident and goes between dean and john. whereas abraham, who “sustained no injuries from the accident,” stays with dean the whole time. weeks. he makes contact with him a few times through sam’s idea of a ouija board, communicating with him in the moments where sam isn’t there. unknowingly, again, talking to him through their souls too; knowing he was there before sam had the idea of how to communicate, knowing that he was still there and fighting death every moment. he didn’t know literal that was until sam and the ouija board, when dean spelled the word: REAPER.
in the midst of attempting to figure out what could be done to save dean from this reaper before it could take him, before he is given no other choice, sam and abraham both find themselves arguing with john over what the next step is. both of them want to help dean, find a way to wake him up and heal him before its too late. but john is resistant, focused more on his revenge and catching back up with the demon than he is with the condition of dean. sam is the first to leave the room out of pure frustration, and abraham was soon to follow but he had a few things to get off of his chest first. he remained behind if only to call john a “fucking coward” and that he should be disgusted with himself because “after everything he’s sacrificed for you, putting up with your shit all of his life, your fucking excuses… you can’t even be bothered to care. you haven’t even asked how he is, or if he’s scared. your only concern is finding the demon instead of helping your own children, one of which is fighting to stay alive. you’re such a fucking coward.”
not long after that “talk” with john, dean wakes up. abraham is by his side when it happens, holding one of his hands and talking to him. telling him that he won’t leave him, no matter what happens. sam is still the one that calls for help when dean comes out of his coma, and abraham tries to keep him calm until the nurses arrive.
then john visits him and its more dumping on him. its when john tells him that if anything were to get out of hand with sam, if he were to slip too far, that dean would have to kill him. later that same day, john dies after he sold his soul for dean. the only good thing john had ever done and still it turns out to be selfish.
after being discharged from the hospital, they have the impala towed to the cabin. this is the first time this incarnation of dean will ever have seen the property and the orchard. and with his time spent there, dean would put many hours into fixing the totaled car himself. abraham would help where he could, putting some hours with the car himself, mostly to keep dean company as he tries to deal with the loss and, ultimately, relief of johns death. and that he’d discovered a letter that john kept from him all these years from mary, learning that john was not his father but instead a man he’d never heard of before, kip wesley. [ abraham also, at some point, helps dean find kip to finally meet his biological father face to face. they meet and kip becomes as involved in deans life as he'll let him. they stay in close contact and, on some occasions, meet up together for catch ups. ] abraham tries to help him process it all, on top finding out more about these promised children.
thankfully though, they have help in that regard. they find other hunters, some that run a bar called “the roadhouse,” where they meet ellen and jo harvelle and ash, who all help them in their hunt to track down azazel and these “promised children” in some effort to understand and get ahead of what may or may not be coming next for them.
and by then it was too late.
