Kara, Para sa Masa
When you think of an award-winning journalist, which name first comes to mind? Who do you think of? Well, if you’re going to ask me, then i’ll answer— without hesitation— the name of our subject for today, no other than the well-known journalist, Ms. Kara David.
But first… sino nga ba si Ms. Kara? Let us start with the basics. Kara Patria Constantino David-Cancio, also known as “Kara David” is a Filipino journalist, anchor, host, educational administrator, and professor at University of the Philippines Diliman, one of the most prestigious schools in the country. She was born on September 12, 1973.
But hey, wait! Let’s leave those basic information to Google, just search it up if you want to know those types of infos about her— instead, let me tackle how amazing she is, and when I said amazing, I meant AMAZING! You don’t believe it? Then To Read is To Believe.
Let me go back to the first question.
When you think of an award-winning journalist, which name first comes to mind?
As a mainstay of GMA’s I-Witness (A documentary show), Ms. Kara has taken us to places we didn’t even know existed where even Google Maps would just shrug and say, “Wala, ‘di ko alam ‘yan.” I mean, admit it, half of us are Googling the locations of her documentaries while watching. She dives deep into the lives of ordinary Filipinos, digging up stories that make us all go, “Wait, bakit hindi ko alam 'to?!” And just when you think she’s wrapping it up, she’ll hit you with a heartfelt moment that makes you question your life decisions— like, “Anong ambag ko sa society na ito?”
Aside from being a well-known journalist na para sa masa, Ms. David is also known in the field of— you won't believe! TikTok! As the said app gains popularity over the years, Kara also gains popularity outside her working world— leading her to being reigned as the “Queen of Potential Sounds,” oh the versatile kween that she is!
Contrary to what was expected, her career and docu subjects’ seriousness, she can be unserious at times. Larooo hahaha love you. 😍
Beyond journalism and TikTok fame, Kara’s heart belongs to education. Through her Project Malasakit, she helps underprivileged kids get scholarships.
Her motto? “Ang malasakit ay nakakahawa,” and she lives by it as we all can see.
You’d think being a journalist and TikTok queen is enough, but Kara makes sure she’s making a difference, one kid at a time.
So, in short, Kara David is the perfect mix of heart, grit, and humor. She’ll make you cry one minute, laugh the next, and leave you wondering how she does it all without breaking a sweat— or maybe just a little. Don’t worry, though— if she does sweat, she’ll probably turn it into a TikTok sound, because with Kara, malasakit and humor are definitely contagious.

War-a na bang pag-asa?
In the high-stakes drama of the Philippine government’s War-On-Drugs, the last thing anyone expected was the side characters— the ones who weren’t originally part of the plot—to take the center stage. Policies were rolled out with intense seriousness, but as with many grand plans, reality had a funny way of throwing curveballs. What was intended as a tough action on illegal drugs has instead left us with some of the most unexpected, and occasionally ironic, side characters and consequences.
