class set up
In this math class I put a big emphasis on self-advocacy, if you need help with an assignment reach out to me for help, try to not have someone else do it for you.
In this class we also work a lot on collaboration, more brains put together are often better than one brain by itself
In each class we will have teams and each team member will have a team role
I believe in utilizing math, not memorizing math which means I will never expect you to have memorized all the formulas we learn but I do expect you to know how to use it correctly given all proper information
Show all your work, I can't help you find why you got a problem wrong if I can't see how you got there
Be kind to everyone not everyone is confident in their math abilities (yet) so we do not make fun of anyone who has an incorrect answer
Make this room a space where everyone is welcome
Class break down
Assignments
Assignments consist of everything that we do outside of testing, that can be classwork or homework
There will not be a lot of homework assignments, mostly just finishing what you did in class if it was not done then
Tests/Projects
This where we start to test how well you can utilize the math we learned over a certain span of time
Projects count as a test grade, I sometimes use projects in place of a written test
There are no test retakes but there are test corrections (guidelines for corrections are below)
TEST CORRECTION GUIDELINES
There will be a video uploaded to Google Classroom, utilize this to help you correct the test.
Explain why your answer is not correct
Quizzes
Quizzes measure your progression of understanding, they are more for you to use than me so you can better see where you understand things before the big test
This allows you to ask more specific questions and get more specific support
Quizzes can be retaken but only once, and only before the test for the topic the quiz was on
For example, you cannot retake a quiz on proportions if you have already taken the proportions test and we are currently learning about solving one-step equations
All material can be found on the online textbook
