The Recipe Repository ("the app") is designed around one core idea: your recipes are yours, and they stay on your device. This policy explains exactly what that means.
What the app stores, and where
Everything you create in the app — saved recipes, ingredients, instructions, folders, meal plans, shopping lists, star ratings, cook history, and any photos you attach — is stored only in a local database on your device. None of it is sent to us, sold, or shared with any third party. We don't have accounts, servers, or a database of our own that holds your content — there's nothing for us to see even if we wanted to.
What does leave your device, and why
Fetching recipes from a URL. When you save a recipe by pasting or sharing a link, the app requests that web page directly from the site you pointed it to (the same way a web browser would). That request goes to the recipe website or video platform (e.g. a recipe blog, YouTube, Pinterest, TikTok) — not to us. We don't log, see, or store which URLs you save.
Backup exports. If you export a backup of your data, the app hands the file to your device's normal share sheet — you choose where it goes (your own cloud storage, email, etc.). That transfer is between you and wherever you send it; we're not involved and never receive a copy.
Cross-device sync (optional). If you turn on Sync in Settings, your recipes, folders, meal plan, shopping list, and cook history are copied directly from your device to storage you already own — your own iCloud on iPhone/iPad, or your own Google Drive on Android — so the same data is available on your other device of the same kind. This goes straight from your device to your own account; it never passes through any server we run, and we never receive, see, or have access to any of it. Specifically:
Recipe photos and app preferences (theme, units, etc.) are not included in sync — only text-based recipe data.
On Android, the app only requests access to a hidden "app data" area of your Google Drive set aside for this app — not your regular Drive files. It cannot see or touch anything else in your Drive.
Once you've connected an account, sync runs automatically in the background each time you open the app (at most once an hour), as well as any time you tap "Sync Now." It never runs unless you've connected an account first.
An iPhone and an Android device never sync with each other, even if they belong to the same person — only devices of the same platform do.
Turning Sync on requires signing in to your own existing Google account (Android only — iCloud uses whatever account you're already signed into at the OS level, no separate sign-in). We never see or store your Google password; that sign-in happens entirely through Google's own screens.
Plus (one-time purchase). If you choose to unlock the paid Plus tier, your purchase is a single one-time payment — not a subscription, nothing renews or auto-charges. It's processed by Google Play Billing, and your purchase status is verified through RevenueCat, a third-party purchase management service. This involves sharing a device/purchase identifier and purchase status with RevenueCat so the app can confirm your entitlement — it does not include your saved recipes or any other content from the app. See RevenueCat's own privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy for details on how they handle this data.
What we don't do
No advertising and no ad networks.
No analytics or tracking SDKs.
No accounts, logins, or passwords with us. (If you turn on Android sync, you sign in to your own existing Google account through Google's own screens — we never see that password, and don't create or manage any account of our own.)
No access to your contacts, location, or messages.
No selling or sharing of your data with data brokers or advertisers.
Your data, your control
Because everything lives on your device, deleting a recipe, folder, or photo in the app removes it immediately and permanently from your device. Uninstalling the app removes everything. If you've exported a backup file elsewhere, that copy is under your control, not ours — delete it wherever you saved it.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children — in practice this is straightforward, since we don't collect personal data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
