surveillance and control

With futuristic technology known as "Z-Eyes," the society in this Black Mirror episode depicts how technology can be used to control and isolate individuals. The eyes allow individuals to see and hear other's realities. It also allows people to block others, making others invisible and inaudible from their perception.

lack of individuality

The episode's use of "cookies" strips humans of their autonomy and forces digital clones to monitor smart homes and other mundane tasks for their human counterparts. Although these cookies come across as digital and artificial, they can still feel, hear, think, touch, and smell like humans can -- validating their experiences and pain. Cookies highlight a loss of individuality and freedom in this dystopian society.  

moral decay

With the characters having the ability to easily control and manipulate others, it causes the audience to question if this is morally acceptable. Moral decay is a token trait of dystopian societies, where power and control often override ethics.
