This course has no points! Instead of following a traditional point system, you will see a Check mark or an X (Complete or Incomplete) for every individual assignment. You will look at the list of assignments for the course and complete the number of assignments listed for the grade goal to earn your desired grade! This grading system allows you the opportunity to rework your assignments and improve your writing. Also, I know we are all juggling several things in our lives, and some semesters, it simply isn’t feasible to complete every single assignment for every class. With this system, you can determine which assignments will fit in to your schedule.
Revisions:
You will have the opportunity to submit your best work, and if your assignment is not passing, you will see an "X" in the Grade column for that assignment. You will then need to revise the assignment by looking at my feedback and resubmitting your assignment up to 3 days after I return it to you. Once your assignment is passing, you will receive a “Check Mark” in Canvas which means the assignment will count toward your Grade Goal. Any assignment that is revised within the 3-day window will NOT be considered late. There are no limits on the number of assignments you can revise. However, for each assignment, you can only revise up to TWO TIMES. If your assignment is still not passing after the second revision, it will be considered “Incomplete” and will not count toward your Grade Goal.
I know your final grade is important to you, but in college courses, one of the most important aspects of the grading process is the feedback you'll receive from me. I'll work extra hard to ensure you receive timely feedback on all assignments--usually within 72 hours of the due date for small assignments and within 1 week for larger essay assignments.
Late Work:
Assignment deadlines are there to keep you on track and help you meet specific milestones in the course. However, sometimes students encounter life obstacles that affect their ability to turn in work on time. For this reason, I will accept assignments up to 3 days late, but please use this added window sparingly.
Some exceptions to the late work policy:
Peer reviews cannot be submitted late, as your peers require their feedback before submitting their final drafts.
Also, the final essay (Celebration of Knowledge #2) cannot be submitted late, as final grades are due immediately after we finish our course.
To sum it all up, this course is all about improving as critical thinkers and writers! To determine your Grade Goal, decide which letter grade you'd like to strive for this semester. Then, find your letter grade at the top of the chart and complete the number of each type of assignment as indicated in the chart. You are in control!

Use the sheet below to track your progress. Once you get to your desired course letter grade in each row, you have submitted enough of that specific type of assignment. If you prefer, you can also use the Google Sheets version at the bottom of the page.
Click the link and then click on "Make a Copy." That sheet will be yours for the whole semester, and you'll be the only one with access to it.
All items on the list for a Grade Goal must be completed in order to earn that grade. Failure to complete any of the required Grade Goal items will mean an automatic deduction to the lower grade. Grade Goals are the minimum you need to complete with a “pass” for the desired grade. For example, if your desired grade goal is a C, and you fail to resubmit an Reading Activity or Black History Month assignment for a “pass,” the grade earned in the course will be a D. If you fail to resubmit more than one assignment for a “pass,” your grade will fall to a F. If you pass 1 Peer Review and otherwise have an "A," your grade will become a "B."
