The Big HIll trails are the hub of not only skiing and snowshoeing in the Northern Hills, but also fat biking. While Black Hills Nordic does not allow fat biking on the groomed nordic ski trails, the Grooming Alliance of Spearfish (GAS) provides an incredible groomed singletrack trail system that begins at the Big Hill Trailhead.
Fat bikes access through the trailhead, then head onto shared snowshoe and fat bike trails. The trail splits off and heads into Robison Gulch or heads to the warming hut. Once at the warming hut, the trails follow the snowshoe route, then split off into Robison Gulch. There is a set of three stacked loops with 1, 2.5, and 5 mile options. From the parking lot, riders can also access the Iron Creek Drainage Connector and ride all the way to the Cardiac Ridge overlook.
Black Hills Nordic and GAS work together to promote enjoyable, quality winter experiences at Big Hill. We partner on events and love to see all users groups enjoy the trail systems available at Big Hill.
