BlackBoard is a design tool for perfboards and electrical circuits written entirely in Java. The program is intended for the hobby enthusiast and should help building prototypes on so-called breadboards easily. It features NGSpice integration, a big library of electronic parts with more than 400 pieces and a library with 500 symbols, integrated part and symbol editor, layer based editing, and more.

The way I categorize these software will be based on the conventional workflow I use for my own work (Robotics). Usually, I will start with conceptual design including a circuit schematics and a breadboard implementation. Following by programing the Microcontroller (a development board like Arduino) and then merging the circuit and MCU in a prototype or simulation. Next step the PCB should be designed in a CAD suite and the Gerber sent for manufacturing.

Fritzing:, In my opinion, is the most hobbyist friendly of all. I have read a lot of criticism on the forums about it though. What makes it unique is the virtual breadboard environment where you can place parts and connections similar to the way you could do it in the real world. It is great for beginners like me as well as documentation and publication.

The software allows for basic design of the circuit with basic components without regard to values. I put the parts together on a PCB that is slightly longer than the Arduino. It fits on top as the original MMDVM does. As I had a double layer breadboard I used top and bottom side for wiring. The circuit paths on top are outlined in red and the bottoms ones in blue. There are some areas where the bottom paths are overlayed by the top ones. So for reproducing this circuit I recommand to use blackboard because that allows for blanking one of the layers. The file for blackboard can be downloaded here:

After building the board from the blackboard draft I burned the MMDVM firmware from [5] into the Arduino and running the MMDVMCal program ([6]) I realised that the circuit was not working as expected. None of the LEDs was showing any activity on toggling the PTT. Just the power LED was lit. After some research I found out that there are different Arduino board layouts in the world each having a little different pintout or at least numbering. That issue could be resolved by switching the board layout in the MMDVM Firmware using the Arduino IDE. I just ahd to switch from ARDUINO_DUE_PAPA to ARDUINO_DUE_ZUM in Config.h. And another change not to be forgotten is the addition of a link to a math lib as mentioned in BUILD.txt on [7].

When someone uses a separate supply for those relay modules and then they proceed to eliminate opto isolation by adding ground wires to the Arduino, I respond like someone just ran their fingernails across a blackboard.

If the purpose is to show a new user how to connect up a simple circuit on a breadboard, and the images are clear, with clear markings, and the wires are carefully drawn without obscuring any important detail (pin numbers etc.), then I find Fritzing diagrams OK.

I always have to look carefully at the led they use, the one with a bent knee wire for a polarity marker, though, to work out which is supposed to be ground.

CS 232 HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION 3.0 Credit(s)

Focuses on how developers and designers of computer systems can produce computers that are beneficial to the user and easy to use. Human-computer interaction is the intersection of human behavior and computer technology. In understanding human behavior, developers can evaluate what makes the computer easy to learn and use. The course examines the ways people interact with computers and how to incorporate this knowledge into the design and evaluation of new technology.

since we already have our circuit diagram on paper from the last step, we will use breadboard to complete this testing process, if you are new to Breadboard, this post will help you kick-start with breadboards.

now that we are familiar with interface and we have our project ready on Easy EDA, its time to start building the circuit and import components, but the only problem here is to select the proper component, as every component has different footprint or size. Since we already have our components in hand from the testing on breadboard, we can easily measure the pad distance of each component.

It has been a long time since it was practical to breadboard even moderately complex IC designs to evaluate them prior to manufacture. This is particularly true because of subtle parasitic and characteristic impedance effects that rear their ugly head in the frequency ranges of many modern circuit designs.

Creating a PCB layout can be done in two ways: manually or automatically. Almost all PCB design software has the auto-router feature. Because the auto-router function saves time and makes the process simpler, many designers use it.

This is my first blog and I am going to share what I learnt in STEMLand. I learnt the basic connections in a breadboard and about seven segment display. There are two types of seven segment displays, they are Common Anode(CA) and Common Cathode(CC). I figured out the differences I was able to display my name with the use of wires, resistors, battery and breadboard. It was a new experience for me and I learnt a lot..

Jimmy Holden's father and mother first met over an operating table, dressed in the white sterility that leaves only the eyes visible. Shewielded the trephine that laid the patient's brain bare, he kept track ofthe patient's life by observing the squiggles on the roll of graph paperthat emerged from his encephalograph. She knew nothing of the craft ofthe delicate instrument-creator, and he knew even less of the craft ofsurgery. There had been a near-argument during the cleaning-up sessionafter the operation; the near-argument ended when they both realized thatneither of them understood a word of what the other was saying. So thenear-argument became an animated discussion, the general meaning ofwhich became clear: Brain surgeons should know more about the intricaciesof electromechanics, and the designers of delicate, precisioninstrumentation should know more about the mass of human gray matter theywere trying to measure.

White had a huge blackboard installed on the cellar wall opposite themachine, and he proceeded to fill the board with block outlines filledwith crabbed writing and odd-looking symbols. The whole was meaninglessto James Holden; it looked like the organization chart of a largecorporation but it contained no names or titles. The arrival of each newvisitor caused changes in the block diagram. 17dc91bb1f
