Adults are light-gray birds with a neatly defined black back and black crown. Immatures are brown with large white spots on the wings and blurry streaks on the underparts. Adults have all-black bills; immatures have yellow-and-black bills.

Black-crowned Night Herons often spend their days perched on tree limbs or concealed among foliage and branches. They forage in the evening and at night, in water, on mudflats, and on land. In flight they fold their head back against their shoulders, almost making the neck disappear.

The FV4034 Challenger 2 (Black Night) is a technology demonstrator for BAE Systems' proposal for the Challenger 2 life extension project (LEP), intended to provide a series of modernisations that would extend the service life of the Challenger 2 MBT until 2035. The Black Night has several new enhancements, mainly around the turret, including a Safran Paseo commander's independent sight, a Leonardo thermal imager for the gunner, and a Leonardo night sight DNVS 4 to provide hunter-killer capabilities thanks to thermal imaging equipment for the gunner, commander, and driver. Other additions included a laser warning system and the IMI Iron First hard-kill active protection system. BAE Systems first showcased the Black Night at the Defense Vehicle Dynamics expo in September 2018. However, it was quickly superseded by the Rheinmetall proposal, featuring a completely redesigned turret and smoothbore gun. The Challenger 2 LEP itself has resulted in the development of the Challenger 3, a major upgrade of the platform undertaken in a joint venture by BAE and Rheinmetall to be in operation by 2030.

Platter construction:

Material: 40 mm copper in combination with 20 mm of our special compound let into and screwed together with the copper platter.

Bearing:

Bronze bearing, 16 mm hard metal shaft with ball on top, running on a thrust washer of 'Material S (green)'. Bushing is machined exactly to fit the bearing with zero float, yet remains replaceable.

Motor:

60 mm aluminium, ceramic bead blasted and silk matt black anodised, in identical shape to the Raven Black Night but 60% smaller. 4 height-adjustable feet on the outer corners. 3 motors arranged in an arrow formation, pointing towards the platter. Drive belt is guided through the drive pulleys and around the circumference of the platter.

Motor control unit:

Two built-in power supplies - one is exclusively used to charge the batteries. In normal operation the motors run from the battery supply alone, controlled by a microcontroller. Switching between battery and mains supplies occurs automatically without interrupting operation, as does battery charging. A remaining charge indicator is included on the front panel. Battery complement: 20 x rechargeable AA cells. Run time on battery operation only: Approx. 20 hours.

Armboard:

Up to four tonearms may be fitted.

When I play on any other darkness during night setting:

PROBLEM:

The other settings are not dark enough when I don't have a flashlight, but when playing with Pitch Black, the flashliughts are in some areas very bad.

This is made worse with addition of some mods and certain rooms and textures like the image below:

I want the flashlights to be able to illuminate the world in a meaningful way while the rest of the world remains mainly dark.

- When a light is used, the illumination produced should be more like the bright (NightDarkness setting).

It may seem like preference, but in my opinion the current pitch black setting is not good. And the in-between settings fail to provide the desired experience.

Bonus:

Currently the pitch black setting is not 100% pitch black without any illumination. (would require less view distance for un-illuminated areas in the player view cone)

This is bad because it's supposed to be dark and the game will look different on different monitors and gamma configurations: (example of the data in the image that shouldn't be there, because it is more visible on some configurations and monitors.)

In order to make the game look more similar on different configurations the view distance in pitch black should be more limited with 100% darkness (like the sides of the view cone).

Ideally, illuminated areas (such as campfire in distance) would be visible, in the player view cone, while unilluminated areas should be 100% dark, just like outside of the view cone.

Later that night, the group returned to the Black Nite with reinforcements in tow. The attackers numbered in the double digits when they stormed the barroom hellbent on score settling. But the crowd inside the Black Nite was ready for them. A huge rumble engulfed the tavern for several frenzied moments until the intruders absconded into the night.

This was a great debut from (Lizbeth) Myles, and I hope she writes some more Torchwood in the future. She clearly researched the era and the various sci-fi plot elements extensively, as everything within The Black Knight feels very authentic.
