I have a black neon that I think is holding eggs, I have separated her off and put what I think is a male in the tank, but not sure he is a male. I fed peas last night but she is still swollen, she keeps hiding in the corner behind the plants, but the male? does not seem interested.

Getting black neons to spawn is not a matter of putting a male in. These are fish from a fairly extreme environment that would need a really researched tank to spawn - exact, super soft water, the right pH etc. I had an acquaintance who had bred almost all the aquarium tetras (quite a feat) and it it took him 2 years to figure out that one.
