When a stray rock strikes your windshield, the resulting chip is very much like getting a cut on your skin. When you treat a physical wound, your body heals to prevent further damage, but it almost always leaves behind a small scar. Windshield repair works the same way.
The primary goal of repairing a chip is not to make the damage magically invisible. Instead, the focus is on restoring the structural integrity of your windshield and stopping the crack from expanding. We use specialized, professional-grade resin to "heal" the glass, filling the microscopic air pockets inside the break. This securely bonds the layers back together and prevents the damage from spreading, which is crucial during those unpredictable Texas temperature shifts.
While our repair process will significantly improve the chip's appearance, a slight blemish or "scar" will almost always remain at the site of the initial impact. It won't look completely untouched, but the glass will be, strong and ready for the road ahead.
Avoid Direct Sunlight / Extreme Heat:
If possible, park your vehicle in a garage or a shaded area prior to the technician's arrival. Hot glass expands and puts immense thermal stress on a chip, which can cause it to suddenly spread into a massive, unrepairable crack during the service.
Turn Off the Defroster/AC:
Avoid running your vehicle's max air conditioning or windshield defroster right before the repair, as sudden temperature shifts can instantly force the chip to "pop" or run.
Keep it Dry:
Avoid washing your car, running the windshield wipers, or driving in the rain for at least several hours before your appointment. Moisture trapped inside the chip can ruin resin adhesion or cause a cloudy finish.
Keep it free of chemicals:
Avoid using any glass cleaners, waxes, or rain-repellent coatings (like Rain-X) near the damage, as chemicals can seep into the crack and prevent the resin from bonding properly.
Clear the Dashboard:
Remove any radar detectors, dash cams, or clutter from your dashboard so the technician has easy, unobstructed access to the inside of the windshield.
Windshield damage comes in many shapes and sizes, usually dictated by the object that caused the impact and the force behind it. Moisture and Contaminants: Dirt, road grime, water, and windshield washer fluids can seep into open cracks over time. If moisture traps inside a chip, it can ruin resin adhesion or cloud the repair. Cleanliness of the break before the repair begins is vital.

Safety Camera Systems: Modern windshields are no longer just basic pieces of glass; they house Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) cameras and sensors responsible for lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking.

Because it generally lacks immediate radiating fractures, it is one of the most structurally stable types of chips initially, though it will still expand over time if left untreated.
2. Star Break / Chip - A star break is defined by a central impact point with multiple small, sharp cracks radiating outward, resembling a star.
Characteristics: These radiating "legs" are notorious for spreading rapidly. The thin fractures are highly susceptible to shifting temperatures and physical vibrations from driving, making immediate attention a necessity to avoid a massive crack across the glass.
3. Half-Moon (Partial Bullseye) - Similar to a bullseye, a half-moon break occurs when the force of the impact hits at a slight angle rather than straight on.
Characteristics: It results in a semi-circular crack that doesn’t form a complete circle. While it behaves similarly to a standard bullseye, its uneven shape requires careful handling during repair to ensure the resin fills the entire partially detached area.
4. Combination Break - As the name implies, a combination break features multiple styles of damage in a single impact site—most frequently a bullseye core surrounded by radiating star-like legs.
Characteristics: These are highly volatile breaks. The internal crushed glass at the center can block the paths of the radiating legs, making it difficult to achieve a completely uniform resin fill without specialized techniques.
5. Long Cracks - Long cracks are single, continuous lines of separation across the glass that typically originate from an un-repaired chip or an extreme impact edge.
Characteristics: These cracks are generally categorized as small cracks if they are under 6 inches (roughly the length of a dollar bill). Anything extending beyond that length is a long crack that compromises the structural integrity of the windshield pane.
