BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde said that Praveen Khandelwal will be the party's candidate from Chandni Chowk, Manoj Tiwari from North East Delhi, Kamaljeet Sehrawat from West Delhi, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri from South Delhi and Bansuri Swaraj from New Delhi.

Praveen Khandelwal, a Delhi-based businessman and the founder of Confederation of All India Traders, and Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of late BJP leader and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, are making their electoral debut.

Manoj Tiwari, singer and actor -- serving as a Member of Parliament from North East Delhi, had won the seat two times in 2014 and 2019 elections. Ramvir Singh Bidhuri is a sitting MLA from the Badarpur Assembly constituency.

Three of the four candidates announced by the AAP are currently serving as MLAs. Kumar is the legislator from Kondli, Bharti from Malviya Nagar and Sahiram Pehelwan from Tughlakabad. Mishra, a former Congress MP from West Delhi and a three-time MLA from Dwarka Assembly constituency, joined the AAP in 2022.

Delhi BJP List of candidates: As BJP released its first list of candidates, the party announced five names from Delhi for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Four sitting MPs were dropped from the list from Delhi, including Meenakshi Lekhi, Harsh Vardhan, Parvesh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri. The party is yet to announce its candidates from East Delhi and North West Delhi. Bansuri Swaraj, the daughter of former Union minister Sushma Swaraj, is all set to make her poll debut and has been given ticket from the New Delhi seat. Manoj Tiwari, a renowned Bhojpuri actor-singer and two-time incumbent MP from North East Delhi, has been re-nominated for the seat. He stands as the sole incumbent MP among the announced candidates. The Lok Sabha elections are likely to begin in April-May.

In a surprising decision, the saffron party has opted not to nominate its two-time MP from South Delhi, Ramesh Bidhuri, and instead awarded a poll ticket to Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly. Delhi BJP leaders speculated that Ramesh Bidhuri lost his ticket due to a recent controversy involving his abusive and derogatory behaviour towards a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Danish Ali in Parliament.

Meanwhile, hours before the candidate announcement, incumbent MP from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir as well as Jayant Singh took to X to announce that they had requested BJP president J P Nadda to release them from his political responsibilities.

Political activist Kanhaiya Kumar will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections against BJP MP against Manoj Tiwari from the North East Delhi constituency. The Congress released a fresh list of candidates on Sunday, naming 10 candidates from Punjab, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The party named JP Agarwal as its candidate for the Chandni Chowk seat while former MP Udit Raj was fielded from the North West Delhi-SC seat.

Kumar is a former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union president who first made waves during protests in 2016. He was arrested at the time (and later released) for raising anti-national" slogans on campus. He had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Begusarai on a CPI ticket but lost to the BJP's Giriraj Singh. Kumar joined the Congress in September 2021.

Kanhaiya Kumar will face off against sitting MP and Bhojpuri singer Manoj Tiwari in North East Delhi.JP Agarwal set to contest from Chandni Chowk against BJP candidate Praveen Khandelwal. The veteran leader had previously won the same constituency in 1984, 1989, and 1996. Meanwhile, Khandelwal is a businessman who also happens to be the founder and general secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders.Udit Raj will contest from North-West Delhi against Yogendra Chandolia. He had previously won the constituency in 2014 as a BJP candidate. Raj joined Congress in 2019 after being denied a ticket by the saffron party.(With inputs from agencies)
