Hi, I am Beeli and a Singaporean artist.
Bittergod Art started as a form of healing through art making during a period of deep despair and anxiety in my life. In this difficult period, I was able to use art as a form of focus and healthy distraction. I also rediscovered that it is my childhood passion to express myself through drawing. Art has become my safe space.
I worked in both the traditional (watercolor, micron pen) and digital medium. My artworks have been exhibited in the Pameran Poskad group art exhibition and "There's Room For You Here" mental health art exhibition at Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre. My belief that practicing art is good for our mental well-being has led me to conduct mindful art workshops for NParks Arts@Jurong Lake Gardens and also at Circular Fashion Hub.
I have participated in community mural painting projects with Participate in Design (P!D) Singapore and my artwork “Heart of Diversity” is the first prize winner of Sayoni Singapore queer gender equality video contest. As a mindfulness practitioner, some of my artworks are featured in the online BAM (Buddhist Art Meditation) journal. I hold a Master's Degree in Creative Media with Distinction from RMIT University Australia.
Some people asked why the name Bittergod Art? It was inspired by a loved one complaining about how a bitter someone in her life actually likes to eat bitter gourd (bitter melon.) I thought everyone has bitterness or suffering in their life but suffering can be transformed into sweetness also. Hence the punny name "bittergod."
I hope my artworks which focuses on healing can inspire you, give you hope that the sorrows of life can be transformed by tapping into our creativity. May it be a bridge of connection between us.
