Healthy Food Scanner – Bite (“Bite”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) provides a mobile application that lets you scan foods (via barcode or photos) to view nutrition and ingredient information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
Quick summary (not a substitute for the full policy):
We access your camera only to scan barcodes or take photos you choose to analyze.
We send product identifiers (e.g., barcode) and search terms to our servers and/or to Open Food Facts to fetch product data. We don’t sell your personal data.
You can request deletion of any account-linked data we store.
1) Information We Collect
a) Information you provide
Account info (optional): Anonymous user ID and usage information of the user are kept.
Feedback & support: Messages you send to us (e.g., support requests, ratings, feedback).
b) Information collected via the app’s features
Camera access / photos: Used solely for barcode scanning or product photos you choose to analyze. Photos are processed to detect a barcode or relevant labels; depending on your chosen settings, we may process them on-device or temporarily upload them for analysis.
Scan/search activity: Barcodes, product queries, timestamps, and non-identifying device data (e.g., app version) to operate features, improve accuracy, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot.
c) Analytics & diagnostics (optional)
If enabled, we may collect anonymized or aggregated analytics (e.g., feature usage, crash logs) to improve the app. You can opt out where supported by your platform.
2) How We Use Information
Provide core features (e.g., fetching product data, nutrition analysis).
Improve reliability, accuracy, safety, and performance.
Communicate with you (feature updates, support responses).
Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
3) Open Food Facts (Third-Party Data Source)
We use Open Food Facts (“OFF”) to retrieve product information. When you scan a barcode or search, the app may query OFF’s API with the barcode or search parameters. OFF is an open, collaborative database licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0; product images are generally under CC BY-SA. Attribution to OFF is required, and if we publicly share any adapted database that combines OFF data with other sources, the share-alike requirement may apply. See OFF Terms & Licenses for details.

What we share with OFF: Typically only the product identifier (e.g., barcode) or search query you initiate, plus standard technical request metadata (e.g., IP, user-agent) as handled by your network and OFF’s servers. We do not send your account details to OFF.

Account data (if any): Retained while your account is active or as required by law.

Depending on your region, you may request access, correction, deletion, portability, or object to processing. You can:
