The trip to Madrid and ESAC was one with flashbacks and throwbacks....
My introduction to astronomy and astrophysics was through this mission. The first ever data I reduced, analyzed, and modelled was for the ULX: NGC 1313 X-1, using the EPIC-pn, MOS, and OM instruments onboard XMM-Newton.
Sitting on those benches, wearing a RMA cap and an 8-year-old La Decima-themed scarf, took me back to 2009-2010, when I had cried watching RMA crash out to Lyon FC in the UCL group stage. But the subsequent years (2013 onwards) were a whole different story as RMA dominated UCL with La Decima, La Undecima...and so on. I don't really know what you would call it when an unplanned dream comes true.
