The Science Fiction genre allows us to explore the possibilities of the world in which we live, encourages us to question the possibility of worlds unknown, and requires us to challenge our imaginations. In doing so, we are able to examine the world around us and envision a world in which we do or do not want to live. Through a close examination of science fiction, multi-genre texts, students will make a connection between real-world discoveries that often begin with an idea some may have deemed impossible. Following analysis, discussion and reflection, students will craft interpretative responses that demonstrate their ability to employ inferential skills, make connections, draw complex conclusion, and use text evidence to support their analyses.
