January, 2025 Meeting Notes
We welcomed first-time meeting members Rick and Randall! They are both fairly new to Bishop and we are super excited to have their expertise and help!
Subcommittees gave their updates:
Town Well improvements - Kelly Holder to get painting estimate and include town hall exterior washing; Rick Ludwig will take a look and give landscaping options
Town Hall parking lot - Kelly Holder to meet with gravel people to fill the obnoxious holes over there
Pole Banners - Kelly Holder is going to meet with Lacy to see where they are with GA Power (man, Kelly Holder does so much!!! )
Marker Unveiling - Discussed having a spring event to unveil and maybe do in tandem with a community picnic ala last year's "Mayor's Picnic"
Discussed projects for 2025:
Slow down and prevent 441 widening within town limits - all
On-going improvements and additions to this website (videos?) - Bonnie Kurtz
Look into 501c3 status so that we can apply for grants to improve the community- Bonnie Kurtz and Randall
Branding for the town - Lisa to help out Kelly with getting the ball rolling. Hope is to find someone who can lead the discussion of "what is Bishop?" and come up with fonts and colors and such for the town.
November, 2024 Meeting Notes
Everyone is excited to host the Light the Lights event on Dec 13 from 6-8pm! We have volunteers to do crafts, host singalong, play Mr. and Mrs. Claus and the Bishop Baptist Church will hopefully bring cocoa and cookies like they did last year. And the owners of the future Inn on 441 are going to donate a few items for amazing photo ops. All agreed this is the sweetest event we do all year - love to see the magic of the holidays in our kids' eyes!
Several members received letters from GDOT about appraising their land for the 441-widening project. So sad to hear - everyone is worried for them AND for what it will do to our town and our historic district. A task force is being created to monitor the project and work with GDOT for a good outcome.
Discussed the possibility of the town council buying land for a PARK FOR BISHOP, GA!!! How amazing would it be to have a greenspace where we can gather for events and picnics?! Please, please, town council, make it so! Email the council with your thoughts.
At the next meeting, we will set the schedule and priorities for 2025. Would love to hear input from any and all!
