The Roles and Sides
Your audition will consist of two parts:
Part One: a monologue of your choice
Part Two: a side for the role you would like to play in the Birthday Party
The play has six roles, one of which we may cast as any gender
All roles are non-union only
All roles will be compensated
All roles are open ethnicity unless otherwise stated
Petey | 60s, Male-presenting | Dialect: English regional
Married to Meg, a quiet man, who wants no trouble.
Why don’t you have a walk down to the shops? It’s fresh out. It’ll clear your head.
Meg | 60s, Female-presenting | Dialect: English regional
Married to Petey, she runs the boarding house. Chatty and a fusspot, but not so smart.
You shouldn't say that word to a married woman.
Stanley | 30s, Male-presenting | Dialect: English regional
An erstwhile piano player, guest in the boarding house. Wants to keep to himself.
Played the piano? I've played the piano all over the world. All over the country. (Pause.) I once gave a concert.
Lulu | 20s, Female-presenting | Dialect: English regional
Party girl, gregarious, attractive.
You're empty. Let me fill you up.
Goldberg | 50s, Male-presenting| Dialect: London, Cockney
A man on a job.
I believe in a good laugh, a day's fishing, a bit of gardening. I was very proud of my old greenhouse, made out of my own spit and faith. That's the sort of man I am. Not size but quality.
McCann | 30s, Male- or Female-presenting | Dialect: Irish
A man or woman on a job, Goldberg's associate. Irish.
One time I stayed there all night with the boys. Singing and drinking all night.
