MISSION
Strengthening the mind and body, introducing and promoting Japanese culture through the practice of Kendo.
WHAT IS KENDO?
Kendo is the Japanese traditional martial arts originated from the samurai era's sword techniques. The word "kendo" consists of two kanji, "Ken" means sword and "Do" includes the meaning way or pass.
Today in Japan, kendo is one of the most popular martial arts which is taught in schools as a part of physical education course. Currently it is estimated around 2.5 million people are practicing kendo around the world.
WHO WE ARE
Birmingham Kendo Club (BKC), established in 2018, is a not-for-profit organization located in Birmingham, Alabama. Led by Norio Yasui sensei, BKC comprises members of all ages, from 11 to seniors, who are passionate about practicing the art of Kendo.
BKC is a member of the Southeastern US Kendo Federation (SEUSKF), under All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF).
BKC welcomes anyone who is interested in Kendo. Feel free to contact us if you are interest in learning about Kendo, starting Kendo, or continuing your Kendo journey with us.
