Blue Heron Community Walk
3/18/26
BWC's community kids walk at Blue Heron Lake, in collaboration with Tree Frog Treks, took place on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon, March 19th—and it was an absolute success. We had so much fun exploring nature together and introducing the kids to the fascinating world of birds.
Our team was especially impressed by the group’s curiosity, engagement, and impressive wildlife knowledge. Attending were an amazing group of young learners who are genuinely excited about the natural world. Throughout the walk, we were thrilled to spot 8 out of the 10 bird species on our checklist—a great accomplishment!
It was a wonderful opportunity to teach the kids about both resident bird species and some special winter migratory visitors that pass through Golden Gate Park. Seeing their enthusiasm for spotting and learning about these birds made the experience even more rewarding.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and are really looking forward to continuing our partnership with TFT for more community walks in the future!
Check out the birding checklist we made for the kids below - included are fun bird facts and pictures!
