Why give a survey talk?
Giving a survey talk, at this conference or elsewhere, will help you connect with like-minded peers and find research collaborators. Preparing a survey talk will help you develop your communication skills, which are invaluable when applying for scholarships, jobs, and grants, and which will help you cultivate positive relationships in your academic and professional career.
In advance of the Bird's Eye Conference, each speaker will receive support to make their talk accessible, so this is a great opportunity to create a fantastic talk that you can be proud of!
Preparing a Talk and Receiving Feedback
Each speaker will receive support and guidance to incorporate accessibility into the very design of their talk. As a resource, speakers can find tips and advice in the Guidelines for Preparing a Talk.
After each speaker has prepared a draft outline, title and abstract, they will be required to meet with the Program Chair of their research field to discuss the plan for their talk. The Program Chair will serve as a sounding board, and offer suggestions to improve accessibility for your consideration. (Your Program Chair may not be familiar with your particular research, but in that case, explaining your plan to them will be a good test of the accessibility of your talk!)
