Birding is a very fun, exciting, enjoyable activity, thought before you start your probably going to prepare by buying and doing a few things
Get a good pair of binoculars: The first thing your going to need is a pair of binoculars. You’re making an investment so you are going to want to get a good pair so they work well and last a long time. Trust me some Binoculars can cost a whole lot and look amazing but you're probably not going to want a pair that nice right from the get go. I recommend a pair that's 8x42 but try a few and see what works best for you.
Get a field guide: A field guide is very important, it will show you what birds are supposed to be in your area, when they are there, field marks of the birds, how to distinguish similar species, what habitats birds will use, and more!
Study: With a field guide you're going to want to make sure you look at it thoroughly so you know will be more aware about what species occur in what habitats, help you with IDing birds and just make you better when you're in the field.
Ebird: Ebird is a website and app that allows you to keep track of all the species you see (You're life list), show different spots, people, birds, where recently seen rare birds are, and a lot more. The data they collect is used by scientists for various reasons such as population and migration tracking.
Get out there!: In order to understand the magic of birding you need to get outside and look at birds the more you do the better you will get and the more people you can meet who can help you.
