The Birdhouse Band is a four-piece ensemble based in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, playing an energizing mix of folk, Americana, fiddle tunes, and more. Praised for its tight three-part vocal harmonies and eclectic range of materials, the band's objective is simply to bring people together, joyfully, through music.
The Birdhouse Band is:
Andrew Koehler – keyboards, percussion
Annie Rowell – voice, bass
Mavis MacNeil – voice, saxophone, guitar
Roy MacNeil – voice, fiddle, guitar
The band took on its current form and name in the summer of 2024, but its members have been making music together, in various settings and configurations, for decades. Since around 2008, Annie, Mavis, and Roy have played classical music for private events as the Porter Brook Trio – this group also started the annual tradition of an annual winter concert in East Craftsbury, raising funds for local organizations such as WonderArts and the Hardwick Area Food Pantry. All four Birdhouse Band members also play in the Local Folk Orchestra, which Roy founded in 2023.
Andrew, Annie, Mavis, and Roy all enjoy the company and artistry of many other local musicians. Frequent collaborators with the Birdhouse Band include:
Icarus Tyree – voice, guitar, viola, trombone
Randy Bulpin – guitar, dobro
Katie Rowell Oswald – voice, violin
Andrew Palumbo – drums
Perry Heller – drums
Harrison Martin-O'Brien – drums
