I will appreciate any help from anyone who shows me how to play wma audio files in Itunes. I do not want to use an outside non-Apple audio video converter. The quick time program plays the audio file but I do not know how to bring it in the Itunes Library.

If you don't want to use a non-Apple converter, then there's nothing you can do. Apple's software does not natively play WMA nor WMV content (if QuickTime plays it, you must have either the Flip4Mac codec or Perian, both third-party products), nor does any Apple software on Mac OS X have the ability to convert WMA to a format iTunes can handle.

I downloaded the free MediaHuman Audio converter by which you can very easily convert "wma" files to mp3 or else. The converted file will be stored in "music/converted by MediaHuman/, and can then be added to iTunes Library, or it can be used by mp3 players. All very easy & straight forward.

Thanks! You say handbrake does the apple universal? I converted video to the applyTv format because it looks good playing on a big screen using the appleTv device. I don't really want to have multiple copies of the same video and also, how to keep iphone separate from appletv video. Would be nice for itunes to add features to do this. Especially since apple devices, ipad/iphone/appletv/etc all use itunes but have their own specific video requirements. Itunes should know if you registered several types of apple devices to your itunes apple account, and when importing video, auto convert to all required device formats. Then when you plug in one device, only supported video for that device is displayed. Also a popup note that "video in other formats exists in the itunes library, but has not been converted. Do you want to convert? yes/no". Itunes then could convert in the background. And auto organize different video formatted items into their own folder in the library.

Well now Im wondering how itunes manages video. I notice when buying & downloading an HD movie from the tunes store, in the stored itunes video folder for that movie you see two files. One is the HD version and the other the SD (or iphone) version. But only one instance of the movie icon shows on the itunes movies list. That one movie icon represents both versions of the movie. And when you want to add that video to the iphone, itunes knows to copy the SD version.

I would like to manually do the same thing. That is have both an appleTV version and iphone version both in the same folder and represented by only one movie icon on the itunes movies list. Somehow itunes does this when both a HD version and SD version of the same movie exists. And only one movie icon on the list, not multiple icons for the two versions. I wonder what the trick is to creating this manually?

The particular format of iTunes videos is M4V[1], a video container format containing H.264 video and AAC/Dolby Digital audio similar to MP4. Apple builds FairPlay[2] DRM copy protection into M4V files for copyright reason resulting in lots of third-party video players and non-iOS devices are unqualified to support M4V. If we want to make purchased iTunes M4V videos to have a high compatibility, an iTunes video converter which can convert M4V to MP4 with removal of DRM is needed.

We can google out numerous video converters which announce that they can convert M4V but fairly large number of them can only handle unprotected general M4V video not purchased iTunes items. Although some seemingly go into conversion process, the output file is probably broken or incomplete.

No. But iTunes offers an option to Create iPod or iPhone version. The option is under the Advanced category under the menu bar. It will create multiple copies of your video in different formats. If you need to convert DRM-ed videos or videos in MKV, WMV, AVI, etc. to iTunes, get a professional iTunes video converter like Handbrake, HD Video Converter Deluxe.

I have just downloaded fre:ac in the hopes that I could use it to convert all the AAC files I have in iTunes to MP3 files, on my PC running Windows 10 Home 64 bit.

I wanted to convert the tracks and save them back in the same folder on iTunes as where the AAC files were.

I have tested this out with a couple of tracks and whilst the converetd files show up on Windows Explorer in the correct place, they do not show up on iTunes.

Any suggestions as to any settings I should be making to achieve my objective (NB: Iam a total novice on fre:ac so please don't assume I know what the menus do!!). OR will I have to go through all the converted tracks and add them back into iTunes? If so, it is not much point me using fre:ac as I can just convert each track album by album using the iTunes file converter instead.

Many thanks in advance for any help on this.

Thanks Robert, but I was hoping that I wouldn't have to do the "Add file" bit in iTunes. I was hoping that the converted file would save automatically back into iTunes (or at least, could be set to do so) without me having to add it again. As I said initially, if I can't do that with Fre:ac, then I can go through each album in iTunes one by one, convert all the tracks using the iTunes converter, and then delete the AAC versions and keep the MP3 versions. I was just looking/hoping for an easier and less time consuming way of doing it.
