Monthly Board Meetings moved to 3rd Monday
We are a community of 96 homes in the Fernbrook subdivision of Arnold, MD. As a community, we own two deeded properties that are managed by Birchwood Improvement Association, Inc. under the Birchwood Special Community Benefit District. A Special Community Benefit District is a special taxing district with strict guidelines on how funds may be used. The money is collected with our property taxes and distributed to Birchwood Improvement Association, Inc. by Anne Arundel County. Our fiscal year runs July 1–June 30. Our budget must be approved by the community and submitted to the County Office of Budget each year and we must report all of our fiscal activities for review and verification.
Our pier property is located between the Haskell Drive and Howard Avenue cul-de-sacs. Our wooded property is located behind the homes that run along Haskell Drive with an access road halfway down Haskell Drive.
After many years of disuse, we are working to slowly reclaim the wooded property by cutting back invasive vines. We currently have a vegetation management plan in place for this. Additional ground clearing may be permitted in the future so long as we file with the county and plant native shrubs as specified by them.
More information about Anne Arundel County Special Community Benefit Districts and Birchwood in particular can be found in Anne Arundel County Code Article 4, Title 7.
