Health problems are rapidly changing in Timor-Leste, like in other Asian countries. For example, maternal and child health as well as infectious diseases have been the most prioritized issues; however, the country is now experiencing epidemiological transition and nutrition transition. Other health issues such as non-communicable diseases are emerging, which has not been yet understood well.
Health data is crucial to understanding distribution and determinants of health problems. While Timor-Leste has established health information systems, it is suggested that quality of health data at the Primary Health Care (PHC) level should be further improved. In addition, health data is underutilized at the PHC level. Therefore, it is necessary to develop human resources for health who understand the importance of health data and has the capacity to utilize the data. In-service training institute targeted at the members of the Faculty of Public Health, UNPAZ has a potential to realize such human resources development.
A collaboration system between the project and education for the Field Learning Practice is established to share experiences from the project with the UNPAZ-FSP members.
