Extensive livestock systems and landscape: challenges and opportunities for the sustainable development of rural areas in Southern Europe

(3 ECTS)

This training programme proposes a series of theoretical-practical collaborative learning activities, which aims to introduce students to the field of protection, management and planning of landscapes in relation to current extensive livestock systems. To this end, an international workshop will be held between students and lecturers/researchers from disciplines related to landscape planning and management of the three participating universities through two phases:

(1) a first online one, in which the selected students will have to follow different training modules, discussing the topics covered in international tandems and preparing a guided essay for research initiation;

(2) a face-to-face phase, made up of three field trips (itineraries through Andalusian rural areas in order to visit examples of good business practices), two presentation sessions and discussion of the essays carried out by the students, and a session of conferences given by international experts on the subject.

This project is expected to become the beginning of a training programme made up of universities from the Arqus Alliance. It will provide an international perspective to the students and will facilitate collaboration and exchange of experiences between future professionals of geography and landscape science in Southern Europe.
