Conjugation of Photosensitizers to Proteins. In this study we modify available photosensitizers (PS) through an acylation reaction to yield the metal-acetylated analogue of the PS. The acetylated PS is then reacted with proteins containing single cysteine residues. The reaction with the free thiol conjugates the PS at the location of the free Cys residue. This conjugation allows us to establish the location of the photoinduced trigger for conformational changes.
