THE METAL AFFAIR by BIONICA! Artist Collective, April 2017.

Site-specific dance-performance with video-projection on the ecological and social impact of quarries in the Park Akamas National, Androlikou, Cyprus. The live piece of 40 minutes long is developed based on a series of scenes connected through a narrative thread of variable rhythm and in crescendo. Each scene represents a different layer of the conflict and is expressed in a different medium or format ranging from dance-theater, reading of texts as a manifesto, interaction with the public, video-projections and sound effects and voice over. The piece starts from pointing out the problem, its expression through the press and literature, the discovery of the invisible parts of it as a metaphor, evolving towards motivation and empowerment of the people to face and solve the environmental and political challenge. It was created in the (EDN)- European Dance House Network, and was performed during Sites Embodied Cyprus Festival.

Each scene represents a different layer of the conflict and is expressed in a different medium or format ranging from dance-theater, reading of texts as a manifesto, interaction with the public, video-projections and sound effects and voice over. It was Organized by Dance Gate Lefkosia & the Akamas Project of Pafos European Capital of Culture Pafos 2017, in collaboration with British Columbia University and supported by (EDN)- European Dancehouse Network, and performed during Sites Embodied Cyprus Festival. The Metal Affair has been supported by Dance Gate Lefkosia, and awarded by the Ramón Llull Institute of Catalan Culture.

Artists Nancy Holmes and Denise Kenney were invited to facilitate Eco Art Incubator Cyprus: Sites Embodied, in collaboration with the European Dance Network and Dance Gate Lefkosia as part of the programming for the Eco Art Projects associated with Paphos 2017 European Capital of Culture. The Eco Art Incubator Cyprus workshop and performance series brought together local and visiting artists from various disciplines throughout Europe to research ecological art methodologies as they pertain to a particular contested site. BIONICA! Artist Collective, among them shared their expertise and used site-specific embodied research to generate new artistic and ecological resonances.

The European Dancehouse Network ( EDN ) ATELIER 20 – 23, is a collaboration of Dance Gate & the Akamas Project of Pafos European Capital of Culture Pafos 2017. The performances were developed in parallel to the EDN ATELIER were a collaboration of the SITES EMBODIED CYPRUS FESTIVAL (14- 23 April) taking place in the frame of the Cultural Decentralization programme of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education organized by Dance Gate in collaboration with the Communities of Droushia and Androlikou.
